Everybody Else Seems to Know Something I Don’t
Someone posts the same chart you've been staring at. Easy long, they say. You look back at yours. It doesn't look easy. It doesn't even look like a long. A thought quietly slips in. What am I not seeing?
It usually starts with something small.
You’re looking at a chart.
Trying to make sense of it.
Someone posts the exact same chart online.
“Easy long.”
You look back at yours.
It doesn’t look easy.
It doesn’t even look like a long.
So you zoom in.
Then out.
You switch timeframes.
Maybe you’re looking at the wrong thing.
You stare at it for another minute.
Still nothing.
A thought quietly slips in.
What am I not seeing?
You keep scrolling.
Another trader catches the exact high.
Someone else calls the low before it happens.
A third says “Textbook trade.”
The comments fill up.
“Beautiful.”
“Obvious.”
“Clean setup.”
You wonder if everyone else got the memo.
And somehow you missed it.
At first it doesn’t bother you.
You’re still learning.
Of course there are things you don’t know yet.
But after a while that thought starts showing up more often.
Maybe they understand something I don’t.
Maybe they see something I can’t.
Maybe I’m farther behind than I thought.
So you pay closer attention.
Not because you want to trade like them.
Because you want to understand what they seem to understand.
You save their charts like they contain something yours don’t.
You watch the same video again.
Then again.
You pause it.
Back it up.
Listen one more time.
Maybe you missed something.
You read the comments hoping someone asks the question you were afraid to ask.
Sometimes they do.
For a minute it feels like you found what you were looking for.
Then another chart appears.
Another opinion.
Another explanation.
And you’re back where you started.
What am I missing?
After a while something quietly changes.
You stop looking at your own chart first.
You look to see what everyone else thinks.
Before clicking the Buy button you check X one more time.
Before closing the trade you wonder if anyone else is getting out.
A chart doesn’t look right until someone else says it does.
A setup doesn’t feel good until somebody calls it “obvious.”
Without realizing it you stop trusting what you see.
You start waiting for someone else to tell you it’s okay.
One glance at a time.
One chart at a time.
One opinion at a time.
Until one day you aren’t really asking what you think anymore.
You’re waiting to see what everyone else thinks first.
There will always be another chart.
Another opinion.
Another prediction.
Another trader who makes it sound obvious.
You see the chart they decided to post.
Not the five they never mentioned.
You see the trade they took.
Not the ones they skipped.
You see the answer.
But you never see the part where they weren’t sure.
Most people don’t post the part where they hesitate.
They post the part where they decide.
If all you ever see are other people’s answers it’s easy to believe you’re the only one still asking questions.
Why does it feel like everyone else knows something you don’t?
Could it be because you’re comparing your private questions to everyone else’s public answers?
